Standing in Solidarity with Colorado Farmworkers After Dairy Farm Tragedy

The tragic accident at Prospect Valley Dairy in Keenesburg last week claimed the lives of six farmworkers – people whose daily labor sustains Colorado’s food system, helping move food from fields to families’ tables. Their loss is felt deeply across our state, and we honor their lives and contributions as we grieve alongside their families, friends, and communities.

Colorado’s food system depends on the people and places that grow, raise, prepare, and share food so that communities across our state can eat and thrive. And it’s vital to recognize the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers who often toil in environments that can pose serious hazards. This recent tragedy underscores why we must value and protect every person who makes it possible to get food from farm to fork.

As the Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger stands in solidarity with those grieving and hold space for them to heal, we’ll continue working alongside partners and communities to honor those lost. By strengthening local food systems, we ensure not only nourishment but also the safety, dignity, and belonging that everyone deserves.
