Policy & Community Justice
Advancing bold policy change & community-led solutions for a better food future
From supporting grassroots advocacy initiatives to influencing federal food policies, Provecho Collective works to ensure everyone has good food and a voice in shaping the systems that affect their lives. We partner with groups as they lead food system change in their own Colorado communities.
Our Approach
We take a strategic and collaborative approach to policy and community justice work, first by centering the ideas and leadership of those most impacted by hunger and food injustice in Colorado. Grounded in transparency, shared power, and partnership, Provecho Collective invites others with shared values to lead and co-create policies and solutions with communities.
Our Policy Platform
We focus on three key areas to advance equitable and community-rooted food systems across Colorado:
- Food Sovereignty: Everyone deserves the power to choose what they eat and how it’s grown. We support policies that enhance people’s power over their local food systems, including access, land, cultural foodways, and the autonomy of local producers to find stability and access to the markets of their choosing in Colorado.
- Nutrition Program Access: All Coloradans should be able to access the nutrition support they need to thrive. We advocate for well-resourced agencies, streamlined and simplified public-benefit systems, and state policies that expand access to federal food programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
- Supporting Coloradans: Improving food systems also means addressing the issues that shape our daily lives. We support intersectional policies — from housing to healthcare — and advocate for long-term tax reform to fund programs and services that all Coloradans rely upon for their well-being.

Amplifying Community Power
As a capacity-building organization, Provecho Collective currently partners with The Colorado Trust to support grantees focused on increasing healthy food access and building resilient food systems within local Colorado areas. Through this work, we offer connection opportunities, one-on-one program support, tools, and trainings around food access data and evaluation, storytelling, media, and more.
We also support community food leaders and grassroots advocates in growing their advocacy skills, sharing their stories, and influencing policy and systems change.
