With support from our Federal Policy Committee, the Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger and partners recently sent another letter to Colorado’s Attorney General related to the $24.6 billion proposed merger of Kroger and Albertsons. Collectively, we expressed deep concerns about the recent sale of 91 Safeway locations across Colorado, done in hopes of helping secure the merger.

Our team, through the Blueprint’s State Policy Committee, entered the session with many collective priorities. Join us in celebrating wins and reflecting on lessons learned as we all move towards a policy and advocacy landscape that’s fully accessible and working for the people of Colorado.

Our Connecting Food & Health Project Team is gathering sign-ons for a letter to the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing. It’s intended to show our support as advocates for a Regional Accountable Entity bid process that prioritizes: equity and inclusion, food and nutrition supports, and accountability and performance improvement in our state’s Medicaid program called Health First Colorado.

Families now have more ways to get their kids the nutrition they need in summer when school meals aren’t available. This includes the new grocery benefits program in Colorado, along with neighborhood meal sites and to-go meals available across the state.

All over Colorado, farmers’ markets are starting to pop up with local growers ready to sell their farm-fresh produce! These markets are a vital part of our food systems, serving as a way for community members to access local, nourishing foods while also providing income opportunities for farmers, ranchers, and other producers.
At the Village Exchange Center in Aurora, one reality is clear to Amanda Blaurock, the organization’s executive director. Making connections for their clients as seamless as possible is a recipe for ensuring everyone who visits the center gets what they need.

House Bill 2024-1301, with a focus on time to eat and play in Colorado public schools, did not advance during the 2024 state legislative session. While the Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger and Nourish Colorado are disappointed in the outcome, both organizations will continue to advocate for time-to-eat policies in Colorado. Together, we plan to create our own opportunities to evaluate best practices and policies, which will kick off this summer with ample options for network input.
